Day 1: Beng Mealea and Koh Ker Tour

We leave Siem Reap in the morning to make our way to the Beng Mealea temple complex which is located on the ancient Royal Angkorian highway to Preah Khan Kompong Svay.
The complex was built in the 12th century, with a very similar layout and style to Angkor Wat. The current state of the complex provides an insight into how early explorers would have found many temples. Trees have grown out of the towers and vines entangle columns. To reach the central towers you will need to do a bit of climbing over lintels and collapsed walls.
After lunch we visit the Koh Ker group, which used to be one of the capitals of the Khmer empire (in 928 AD). This temple group was only recently de-mined with basic visitors’ facilities just being built. There were a vast number of temples build in the area under the reign of Jayavarman IV who was in power for almost 20 years.
Koh Ker is dominated by Prasat Thom, a tall temple mountain rising high above the plain and the surrounding forest. Great views await you after an adventurous climb to the top.
After the temple visits we will head to Sra Em town for dinner and overnight stay at Sok San Guesthouse.

Day 2: Preah Vihear Tour ( UNESCO )

Start the tour in the early morning, to see the sunrise on top of the spectacular Dongrek Mountains where the Preah Vihear temple (UNESCO World Hertitage Site, July 2008) is perched on the edge of a giant cliff.
Visit and explore the temple, enjoy the amazing scenery and learn about the temple history as well as the recent border disputes with Thailand.
We will go back to Sra Em for lunch and in the afternoon travel to Anlong Veng town. This was the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge and the town where Pol Pot was convicted for ‘crimes against the Cambodian people’ and where he and Ta Mok (Brother Number Four) were buried. You can visit Ta Mok’s house, the best preserved of the Khmer Rouge houses.
After the visit to Anlong Veng we will travel back through amazing scenery to Siem Reap.
